Co-Motion

Few bicycle brands in this world will ever compare to Co-Motion. Though many will aspire, the work and discipline to achieve such results is daunting. It’s almost hard to contain in writing what has really formed like the roots of a tree without hubris or otherwise sounding out of place. When in reality, Co-Motion is very much a brand without a lot of flare or fanfare. In fact, it is their almost boring predictability that makes them actually shine so bright. For the raw fabrication, finish and assembly is quite possibly as perfect as can be. I’ve yet to see a Co-Motion bicycle that appeared to show flaw in any direction. Not even the “hand made flaws” that are typically reserved for the genre. They simply come out like a perfectly tuned note on a piano in a 500 year old stone music hall. They just leave you not wanting any more.

If you are new to the brand, then we’ll start with this: Co-Motion is primarily known as a specialist in tandem bicycles, from touring to racing. But there are a lot of values from making rugged tandems that can be carried over into single-rider bikes as well.

Co-Motion probably best expresses these relationships from tandem to singles in their touring bikes, which have without question become the most widely competent bicycles in the world. When push comes to shove and you find yourself actually staring down the barrel of a plane ticket to Africa or mapping your route across Central America…you had better look in the mirror and ask yourself the difficult questions about your equipment, because once you get out there, making a change is not going to pleasant. When I see “real” riders who are turning out the gear laden miles over months and years across states, countries and continents, I see them buying Co-Motions.

While touring and tandems and bikes that are generally built to withstand an inordinate amount of torture are Co-Motion’s forte, they also make some of the most practical race bikes you’ll ever see. Clean, simple and proven designs rule here. You will often see a design last many years before it is replaced or perhaps simply added to. Time honored alloy materials remain the medium of choice and rightly so.

We don’t believe in a “good/ better/ best” scenario when it comes to frame materials. Rather, we see each medium for what it is and that each has its place. At this level, the Co-Motion customer has either saved their hard earned pennies and this is the single bike purchase they know they will have for a lifetime – or – the Co-Motion is one bike of their stable of steeds.

Neither is wrong as Co-Motion is without question one of the finest made bicycles available in the world today.
