Cyclefit

Size Cycle

The Cyclefit appointment is conducted on a one to one basis with Tony, our SICI trained Cyclefit Technician. Tony will use Silicon Coach software for 3D motion capture and freeze-frame video analysis to deconstruct your riding position and pedaling technique. Using Computrainer’s Spinscan Technology will help you and Tony assess and improve your pedalling dynamics using footbeds, BFS Wedges correct posture, position and technique.

The Equipment:

Serotta Sizecycle
Computrainer
Silicon Coach Video Software
Racermate Varicrank

It could be said that you could go to 10 different fitters and walk away with 10 different fits. This is all too often true when the fitter maintains a single minded posture or a “method-in” approach, rather than the “individual rider-centered” approach. It’s this level of openness in part that makes Tony unique.

As some will require more advanced fit needs than others, Tacoma Bike offers 3 fundamental fit services, based on time and assessment to fit both your riding needs and the needs of your budget.

Pro Fit – 3 Hours $300

Using the best techniques from Serotta, Slowtwitch and BikeFit, the “Pro Fit” represents the cutting edge in fit methodology and is recommended for cyclists seeking the best possible fit.

Tools and Methods

A wide array of tools and methods is used here: Verbal and written interviewing, injury history, muscular flexibility, foot, leg chain (foot, ankle, knee, hip) and spinal biomechanics.

From there, the fit process moves over to the mechanical jigs and power measuring tools. They include: heart rate and power monitor, video motion analysis, computerized spin scan and pedal stroke analysis. Then using the Serotta fitting jig and Racermate Varicrank hooked up to a Computrainer, we can efficiently target the optimal contact point and fit to the bike.

Leg Chain

However, the most important element of bike fitting starts at the feet and is often the most overlooked part of proper set up. Using BikeFit’s laser alignment method, the leg chain can be optimized for maximum power and efficiency – Consider that your legs will turn over 30,000 revolutions in a century ride and imagine the compounded issues of doing that wrong! The problems can add up quick.

Take-home Information

Once the rider’s position is complete, then the coordinates of the fit on the jig are recorded and used to set up a riders existing bike or applied to a new bike. Tony will review the photos and documents with you and store all the records for future use, and send you home with your copies as well.

Sizing Fit – 2 Hours $200

These fittings represent what most people understand bike fitting to be, as portrayed by two of the biggest and best fitting schools in the world.

fitting1

The sizing fit is for those only concerned with what their next bikes geometry should look like. It uses a tailored blend of Serotta and Slowtwitch methodologies to accommodate either road, mountain bike or triathlon bike setup.

Tools and Methods

These fittings cover all the Serotta methodology for road and mountain and all the FIST (SlowTwitch) methodology for triathlon.

Full Serotta style assessments and measurements are recorded including flexibility, injury history, bio mechanics and pedaling style.

The Serotta size cycle is used in conjunction with a computrainer and video analysis to perfectly dial in the contact points in relation to each other to help direct you to your perfect ride, wether that’s a stock, pro build or full custom bike.

Leg Chain

The “Sizing Fit” differs from the “Pro Fit” in that it does not include heart rate/power/pedal stroke analysis or the hugely beneficial Bikefit leg chain or foot/pedal setup, although cleat placement is included.

These are our most popular fits.

Hail Mary Fit*  – 1.5hr $150

*A tongue in cheek homage to the famous quarterback Roger Staubach who was quoted as saying about his game winning last minute pass, “I closed my eyes and said a Hail Mary.”

fitting4

Although we naturally feel that everyone should be Pro Fit, we also strongly believe that bike fitting needs to be accessible to more cyclists. Hence the introduction of the “Hail Mary Fit”. The cyclist’s own bike is set in a static trainer and adjustments are made to the bike to attain the closest fit that the bike, and rider’s wallet, allow. (Often new parts are needed for a better fit).

Tools and Methods

The “Hail Mary Fit” leaves the fitter to do what he knows best without the encumbering procedures of record keeping or method structure. Tony is left to free form and deal with some of your most outstanding cycling fit issues.

Like Staubachs game winning throw this ‘quick fit’ is not to be underestimated, Tony is highly skilled and practiced in this form of fitting. Due to his qualifications, training and experience, the 1.5hrs spent with Tony in the “Hail Mary Fit” is often far more rewarding to the cyclist’s riding than the usual 2.5hrs spent with nearly any other bike fitter. So have confidence – we score touchdowns where others just make plays!  (metaphorically speaking)

Take-home Information

Riders should be aware that there is no record keeping included and that they are responsible for keeping note of all recommendations and fit adjustments themselves.
