The Z-Series bikes are a true hybrid of design theory. About a decade ago the sloping top tube was introduced to the cycling market at large. It’s purpose was to allow for new flexibility in how to fit riders. Sloping top tubes also had an effect on the comfort of the bike as it allowed more seat tube which in turn added a degree of dampening to the ride. Z-Series frames also have a more relaxed geometry and slightly longer wheel base which makes them more stable at speed. Referring once again to the Garmin pro team, this frame is another popular choice for the long days. When the riders want comfort and stability for sweating out a 150 mile day over mixed terrain and lots of elevation changes, the Z-Series frame meets their needs. They can get their body posture up a bit to stretch out and endure the grueling miles without having a grueling cockpit position to make it worse.
We have 4 of the 6 Z-Series models in stock (but as always, can get you what you need should you choose something we might not normally carry).
The $3,000 Z4 starts with Felt’s middle selection of composite formulas, the Ultra High Modulus carbon fiber and carbon fork finished with a subtle paint scheme over the always attractive 3K carbon cloth weave. Paired with a Shimano Ultegra Compact drive train, this is an excellent bike for a dedicated rider who wants a high end performance ride without the need to step up into the premium “pure race bred” bikes. Club riders who maximize their time in the sport as their number one hobby will want to look at the Z4 as a serious contender in the “bike of the year” type categories. We state over and over again how impressive a job Felt does at “mid range” price bikes that are just so well thought out and executed. The Z4 embodies all of the principals of what the whole Z-series is about.
